A foursquare with a deep porch, put up in 1923 by a man who worked for the railroad and wanted his windows facing the morning. The Hallorans had it first and raised six children in four bedrooms. The Pikes bought it in 1961 and put in the kitchen that stayed, avocado and all, until 1994. We have had it since 2002. There is a pencil mark on the pantry door frame that reads PJH 1957. We have painted that frame twice and cut around it both times. We are selling in the spring, and this page goes with the house. Whoever comes next gets the marks on the door, the name of the man who built it, and the thing about the back gutter that nobody tells you.

My grandfather put that porch on. Six of them in four bedrooms, and he never once complained about it.

We looked at this house in 2002 and lost out to you. No hard feelings. Mostly.
